Dr. Deborah McArthur-Wicks

Dr. Wicks is the owner and main Veterinarian of the practice. She graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and has been in private practice since. She opened Surf City Pet Hospital in 2002 after 2 years as an emergency vet. Dr. Wicks has a son, Travis. Dr. Wicks has 5 cats at home and 9 cats at the clinic. She also has 2 dogs – a very smart and well behaved Sheltie Mix and a brain-less Black Lab (any takers???)(just kidding.) She also founded and runs Purrfect Pet Adoptions through the clinic.

Dr. Eliza Ruffner

A Wilmington native, Dr. Ruffner received her DVM from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in May of 2013 and was fortunate enough to be able to return to Wilmington to practice. She started working with us in 2013. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her dog Ramsey and her cats Milo and Winston, horseback riding, reading, traveling and relaxing. She looks forward to meeting your pets and treating them as if they were her own!

Dr. Jennifer Carrell

Dr. Carrell is from Jackson Mississippi, she graduated in 2008 form Mississippi State University and has been practicing for 10yrs. She currently lives in Hampstead with her husband Justin, her son Emmett, daughter Lillian, dog Moonpie and bunny Chiro.

Jessica (Pate) King

Jessica is our Office Manager / Vet Assistant. She has lives in this area all of her life with her family. Jessica has work with us since May 2002 when we opened. She currently lives in Sneads Ferry with her Husband Kris and her dog Atlas, 4 Goats, 2 bunnies and 2 turkeys and 3 chickens. Jessica loves her job very much and will treat your pets like they were her own.

Laurie Timko, RVT

Laurie is our Register Veterinary Technician, she graduated in 2014 from Northwestern Connecticut Community Collage. She moved here from Connecticut in 2015 with her husband Harry. They have 2 cats Nermal and Snots, and 1 dog named Rudy. She has been with us since Jan. 2016.

Ashleigh Haste

Ashleigh was born in Wilmington and lives in Holly Ridge. She currently lives with 3 snobby cats and 1 VERY HYPER dog who she adores. She started working at Surf City Pet Hospital in October of 2007 and is currently one of our full time receptionists. She loves her job and loves seeing and greeting the pets and owners that come in to our practice.

Ashley Coble

Ashley is one of our Vet Assistants, she has been with us since late October of 2007, and lives in Rocky Point with her husband Jeff, daughter Kathryn. They have 1 dog and 6 cats. She helps us bottle feed our orphaned kittens and always has a good time at work.

Renee’ Pate

Renee’ has been working with us since July 2011 as a Vet Assistant / Receptionists. She has lived in the Hampstead / Holly Ridge area most of her life. She currently resides in Hampstead with her fiancé Rick Lafreniere and their daughter Harlie. Renee’ has a son named Jason, who lives in Oregon and a granddaughter named Aurora, she also has a daughter named Christin. Renee’ has 3 cats, 3 dogs and multiple farm animals and loves animals very much. She helps take care of our bottle fed babies also.

Dionne Henry

Dionne is one of our full time Receptionist, she has been with us since 2013. She lives in Hampstead with her two daughters, Darrissa and Brittany and her grandson Auden. The love of animals obviously runs in the family! She has a soft spot for Pitbulls and has rescued all 6 of hers.

Sara Douthit

Sara started working with us in 2015, she is one of our Vet Assistants / Kennel Tech’s. She loves to cuddle with every puppy and kitten that comes in our office. Sara also works part time as a Pet Sitter and at Taco Bell in Hampstead.

Jaimie Ebidon

Jaime is one of our Vet Assistant/Kennel Tech’s. She is originally from Antwerp Ohio, she severed in the Marine Corp for 9yrs as a dog handler. She lives in Richlands with her son Braedon, 5 cats and 3 dogs. Jaimie has been with us since June of 2017.

Travis Wicks

Travis is our part time Kennel Tech he started working with us the summer of 2017. Travis is Dr. Wicks son and has grow up with the clinic and like his mother he has a big heart when it comes to animals big and small. He is going to school right now at Cape Fear Community Collage for Information Technology.
